2008 Maine Boat Stickers

Posted March 29, 2008

The legislature passed LD#153- Public Law Chapter 44 which "incorporates the existing lake and river protection sticker and fee structure for Maine-registered boats with the watercraft registration eliminating the need to produce and administer a separate lake and river protection sticker for water craft registered in Maine."

You should have received your resident boat stickers for 2008, which is the combined registration and milfoil sticker. MOSES has been programmed for the change. Since it is one sticker, MOSES will charge one agent fee, which is less than last year when the stickers were sold as 2 transactions.

If a boat is only used in salt water it does not require a milfoil sticker and MOSES will ask at each transaction if you are selling a registration or a registration with milfoil. If you choose just the registration then MOSES will charge the appropriate fee and you will cut the milfoil sticker section from the registration sticker. The removed section should be discarded. This should ONLY be done for a boat that the customer says will be used exclusively in salt water.

If, at a later date the customer decides to use the boat in inland waters, they may purchase a milfoil up-grade. You will look up the boat and select milfoil upgrade” at the Registration Events screen. MOSES will prompt you to put in a new sticker number and the customer will leave with a new complete sticker and a new registration that has the new sticker number.

You cannot sell just a resident milfoil sticker. It must be issued as a complete registration/milfoil sticker and both halves have the same sticker number, which must be the same number that is on the registration document. If you complete the transaction and then realize that you selected the saltwater registration without milfoil by mistake, that is you intended to sell the registration with milfoil, you will need to void the transaction and do it again with the correct information.

There were no changes to the non-resident milfoil sticker process.

The non-resident milfoil sticker is still purchased on MOSES by going to Sales and then Merchandise and there is still an Agent fee for this sticker.
