On Saturday, August 23rd, from 11am to 2pm, R.G. Bernier, well known as the Deer Tracker, will be at the Maine Wildlife Park in Gray for a special program and book-signing. Mr. Bernier is an outdoor writer, lecturer, white-tail consultant and nature photographer from Standish, Maine. He has devoted much of his life to studying, writing, photographing and lecturing about the White-tailed Deer - what he calls the greatest animal ever created! Bernier has photographed wildlife from Maine to the Canadian Rockies, from North America to the African Continent. He is the author of four books - all devoted primarily to the white-tailed deer. His titles include "The Deer Trackers", "On the Track" and "The Deer Tracker's Journey".

Bernier will feature his new children's book, "Dickie the Deer", during his program at the park this year. Over the past decade, Bernier"s spring research of fawns, their births and behavior has been a fascinating journey. According to Bernier, "Perhaps more than any other single event in my career with white-tails, the encounter with Dickie the Deer is undoubtedly the most gratifying I've ever had the good pleasure to experience." This delightful book is available for purchase at the Park Nature Store.

Come to learn a lot about white-tails in Maine, their habits and habitats. The park has several white-tails in a spacious, wooded habitat, with 2-3 trophy bucks that should be sporting large racks in velvet. There are great opportunities for viewing and photographing these magnificent animals.

A summer series of wildlife exhibits and demonstrations targeted for the general public is offered throughout the season at the MAINE WILDLIFE PARK, located on Route 26 in Gray. 'Wildlife Days' are held on consecutive weekends through the summer, and are sponsored by the Friends of the Maine Wildlife Park. Presenters featuring a variety of wildlife topics will set up exhibits and demonstrations from roughly 11:00am to 2:00pm on most Saturdays. We encourage visitors to stop by, ask questions and even participate in some activities.

One of our final season events, the very popular October "Halloween Night Hike", will occur on Friday, October 24th, from 6-9pm.

The Wildlife Park Nature Store is full of new wildlife and nature merchandise for all ages; and the Friends of the Maine Wildlife Park "Snack Shack" sells ice cream, soda and light snacks, with all monies raised donated to the Wildlife Park for wildlife exhibit improvements and new construction.

The Maine Wildlife Park has over 25 species of native wildlife on display, plus wildlife gardens, nature trails, and other interactive exhibits and displays. The park is open daily through November 11th from 9:30am-4:30pm; visitors must leave the premises by 6:00pm.

Admission to the park is free for ages 3 and under; $4.00 ages 5-12; $6.00 for adults, and $4.50 for seniors. Groups of 15 or more are $3.00 per person. Bring a picnic and spend the day! Family and Community Season Passes are available, and are an incredible bargain for families and groups that visit the park several times over the course of the summer.
